The San Fernando Valley spineflower (chorizanthe parryi var. fernandina) grew in the foothills around the San Fernando Valley and ranges in Los Angeles, Orange, and Ventura counties until they were thought to be lost to development and declared extinct in 1929. They were discovered again in 1999 and were subsequently listed as Endangered by the State of California.
The resilience of this flora reflects the strength and vitality of the people of the San Fernando Valley.
